When Your Rational Brain Has the Facts—and Your Reaction Has Other Plans
If you are searching for phobia treatment, fear therapy, performance anxiety help, fear of flying, public-speaking anxiety, or confidence help in Albany, Oregon, you probably already know the reaction is disproportionate. Unfortunately, fear has never been famous for reading the briefing notes.

Fear Can Be Specific, Predictable—and Still Feel Completely Automatic
- Flying, elevators, driving, heights, needles, medical procedures, animals, enclosed spaces, or other specific situations.
- Public speaking, auditions, competition, presentations, interviews, tests, intimacy, or being evaluated.
- You avoid the trigger, endure it miserably, or need elaborate rituals to get through it.
- Your body reacts before you can finish saying, “There is literally no reason for this.”
- You have lost opportunities because avoidance felt easier than fighting your own nervous system.
The Problem With Avoidance Is That It Works—Briefly
Avoidance reduces fear in the moment, which is exactly why the brain keeps recommending it. The long-term bill can be travel you do not take, careers you do not pursue, stages you do not step onto, elevators you do not enter, medical care you delay, or experiences you quietly decide are “not for you.”
Freedom is not proving you can white-knuckle the trigger. It is having more choice when the trigger appears.
We Work With the Trigger, Not Just the Explanation
We identify the exact trigger, what you predict will happen, what the reaction means, where it may have started, and which memories or associations still carry charge. Then we use tapping-based methods, imagery, focused attention, language, breathing, and state shifts to test whether the reaction changes.
The useful measurement is simple: when you imagine or encounter the trigger, is the response different?
Is This the Right Kind of Help?
Good fit: the fear is identifiable, you are motivated to change it, and you are willing to approach the pattern in a controlled way.
Not the right fit: the fear is part of a severe psychiatric condition, medical instability, active substance withdrawal, or another situation requiring licensed or medical treatment first.
If You’re Ready to Find Out What’s Actually Keeping the Pattern Going
The private inquiry is intentionally deeper than a contact form. It helps me understand what you want, how you know the problem is a problem, what triggers it, what you have tried, what it has cost, and whether my scope fits what you need.
You do not need to decide on a treatment plan. We begin by finding out whether working together makes sense.
Common Questions
Do you treat phobias?
David does not provide licensed psychotherapy or diagnose phobic disorders. He works with specific fear reactions and the emotional associations around them.
Can this be done by video?
Some fear and performance work may be appropriate by video. The actual real-world trigger and safety considerations matter, so fit is decided individually.
What kinds of performance anxiety do you work with?
Examples can include public speaking, auditions, competition, presentations, interviews, tests and other situations where a person’s automatic response interferes with what they know how to do.
Do I have to confront the fear immediately?
No. The work can begin with imagery, memories, sensations and the emotional response itself rather than turning the first session into a stunt.
